Fouling (= fouling factor) can be entered in different units, which can be displayed by means of the list fields. Choose the required unit. Following units are available::
m²K/W; m²K/kW; m² h°C/kcal; ft² hr°F/BTU
It cannot be avoided, that fouling of the heat exchanger will occur in the course of time by deposits caused by contaminated media.
Increasing internal fouling may reduce the heat transfer rate (possibly severely).
To have reserve capacity against fouling (contamination), safety allowance dependent on medium and operating mode should be stated.
In a lot of enquiries the "Fouling-Factor" or fouling resistance is stated in this manner. In case of water/water applications 0,00006-0,0001 m²K/W and in case of oil/water applications 0,0001-0,0002 m²K/W should be stated as normal fouling factor.
We recommend to consider just the required reserve and not to exceed this value. Excessive reserves would just cost a lot of money. We recommend, likewise as in case of Max. pressure drop, to calculate with different values to get a feeling of how the result of the entered numerical values will affect the size of unit and also price of unit.
